WHAT HURRICANE HARVEY LEFT BEHIND TO US

Last week, we experienced something which we never experienced before.  For the first time in the history of SBC, we could not have Sunday worship service.  Not only that, we had to cancel all church events until Thursday. The heavy rain which started from Saturday night equaled almost the rainfall for a typical year.  Because of that, many of the congregation experienced flooding in homes and businesses.  After so much rain, on Sunday night, the rain continued.  I am sure many of you could not sleep concerned of flooding. Despite all this, it was so wonderful ...

I HAVE BEEN ELECTED AS PRESIDENT OF HCM NORTH AMERCIA

Some of you may already heard through the home pages of SBCH and House Church Ministries International (HCMI), I have been elected to be the president of the House Church Ministries, North America (HCMNA).  Currently, Pastor Chai is the president of HCMI, but this organization will be divided into two divisions of North America and Korea. The first reason for the division is because of the retirement of Pastor Chai.  He started the house church system and has promoted it in many countries by traveling all over the world.  However, after his retirement, there is no ...

Faith is a Process

One thing we need to remember about our faith walk is that it should change as time goes.  As one grows from a child and to be an adult then become a parent and learn more about life, our faith should grow from childhood to a mature stage. The most important part of childhood is discipline.  No parents give much freedom to a child and let him/her make own choices.  Since child does not understand the value of freedom, it is more effective to disciple than allow freedom.  Parent should have authority and power to demand obedience.  In the bible, there are so many ...

My Daily Routine

Sometimes, I noticed that church members do not know my work schedule or activity and are surprised to hear that I am busy.  Since they see me on Sunday, they may think that I am busy only on Sundays.  Therefore, I want to inform you of my daily routine.  I do not mean to brag about it.  It is offered only for a better understanding. Normally, I get up at 4:30am to come to church.  5 am to 8 am is my prayer time.  Then, I spend some time for physical exercise.  I used to go to LA Fitness for swimming, but it took too much time so these days I mainly do indoor ...

Desire to Have a Significant Spiritual Experience

Some of us have a desire to experience strong spiritual reality.  It is our common fascination to experience God in any way just like when we have a session to experience the Holy Spirit during the Living Life Bible study class.  Nevertheless, some of us have a yearning to experience something miraculous like the story of the Pentecost in Acts chapter 2.  I was not an exception in that regard. When we have such a desire, we expect that such an ‘out of this world’ experience will totally transform us.   Amazing and extraordinary experiences of God or receiving ...

HEALTHY SEX LIFE IN MARRIAGE

When I was serving as a shepherd for singles’ house church, I saw many young people getting married.  Also, I officiated marriage many times and became interested in their married life afterwards.  When they have problems, I get to talk to them and sometimes have more serious counseling session with them.  Through that experience, I found out to my surprise that many married young couples do not have a regular sex life. Another clear fact based on meeting with many couples is that a happy couple certainly have a healthy sexuality and are very satisfied with their ...

A True Friend whom I can lean on

One book I read recently talks about the importance of having a friend.  All humans need friend, the writer say.  We all need someone with whom we can share our deep thoughts and even expose our own weaknesses.  This friend is someone whom we can lean on in times of trouble.  As I read the book, I asked myself whether I have such a friend.  Regretfully, I did not. I met my wife when I was a freshman in college.  I was very close to my wife so she was such a friend to me and I did not have any other such friend except her.  While I was living in Korea, I had ...
