New Year’s Eve festival and New Year’s Eve service

The annual New Year’s Eve festival for VIPs and New Year’s Eve worship service are an important part of our church culture. These activities provide a chance for VIPs to come to church for the first time, and the New Year’s Eve worship serves as a good place to resolve any misunderstandings related to worship. Through the New Year’s Eve festival, over 100 VIP annually come to church for the first time and many of them have positive remarks such as ‘I did not know church is such a fun place. The other side of the New Year’s Eve festival is that it provides a ...

Children grow with parent’s prayer

It is the season for college graduation. My daughter graduates from college today. She majored in Human development & Family Science: Early Childhood from UT Austin. When she entered college, I recommended her to attend medical school since it is useful for the work of God, so she majored in Biology. However, she did not have a passion for science so after one semester she changed her major. At that time, she said that she could manage studying but she was not happy. When I heard that, I told her to change her major and later she found one she enjoyed studying. She ...

Heart for worship

I want to share one thing I felt during my recent visit to Mozambique, Africa. The place where missionary Myung Sup Chung ministers is about 30 – 40 minutes’ drive from Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. If poverty is evident in the capital, Maputo, the surrounding area goes without words. There are buses in the main road, but normally, people need to walk about 3-4 Km to their homes. The road is not paved so there are thick layers of dust on the road. The road in the village is made of sand which makes walking difficult- just like walking on the sandy beach. ...

During the second service, please sit toward the front.

Ten years ago, the number of young adults who participated in worship was growing. At that time, it was suggested that unmarried young adults could actively participate in the worship preparation and administration of the worship and enjoy equal status with the married adult congregation. This idea created a 3rd worship service. However, to welcome not only single adults but also marrieds, it was decided to call the service the 3rd service rather than the service for young adults. This service is organized and served by single house church members. At that time, it ...

Some changes in our house church ministry

Several thoughts and ideas were shared during the last Village Leaders' Meeting.  And we sensed that it would be great to make some changes in our house church ministry to reflect what was shared.  These are the changes we will make starting from January 2015. House church shepherds' meetings As of now, our shepherds meet every Wednesday from 7:15 to 9PM except on the first Wednesday when we have House of Prayer and on the last Wednesday of even months when shepherds' wives meet with my wife for a time of sharing, encouragement and prayer.  Beginning next year, ...

IQ and character quotient

Koreans have a tendency to rely strongly on the results of Intelligence Quotient (IQ) tests, though to a lesser degree now than in the past. IQ tests an individual on language, arithmetic, abstract-reasoning or spatial imagery and if the score is over 130, the person is considered bright and if the score is over 140, the person is considered a genius. However, it has been demonstrated many times thatachievinga high score on an IQ test does not really correlate with the score’s success in life and achievements. One of the well-known studies related to this issue is ...

There will be changes in setting up the church’s budget and administration

From this year, there will be changes in setting up the church budget and its administration. So far, each department was allocated with a portion of the expected income and at the year's end, whatever was leftover was used to help others. Under this system, there was a tendency to inflate figures by appropriating certain amount for some ministry work which was not really intended to be carried out. Since it was common knowledge that there would be a surplus, often the budget was not followed. This practice possibly led to over purchasing since it was assumed that ...
