A person who gave out a baptism testimony during the Wednesday service last week shared about how giving thanks changed her. She said in her testimony that in House church, she was asked to share about things she was thankful for and was puzzled at first because she couldn’t understand why she was being asked to do so when she didn’t have much to be thankful about. However, every time she went to House church meeting, she searched in her heart for something to be thankful for to share with others and listened to other members giving thanks. Then gradually, she was ...

When I have the sabbatical for getting myself ready for the senior pastor position about a year ago, I used to spend the whole day studying in a library at a local college. Many students would come and go between classes to spend time at the library and some would actually study but others would come in groups of 5 or 6 and chat. They normally have a great time, laughing and talking loudly without lowering their voices even though they are in an area designated for quiet individual studies and not for study groups. After a while, I would glance their way signaling them for ...

There is one person in the Bible that I truly feel sorry for. His name is Asa. He was the king of Judah who ruled the nation for 41 years from 912-871 BC. He was a good king who faithfully obeyed God. 1 Kings 15: 14 says, "Asa's heart was fully committed to the LORD all his life." However, 2 Chronicles 16: 9 says, "For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war." This happened in the 36th year of his reign. He lived a faithful and ...

It seems Youth Mokjangs (Youth House churches) are well settled in now. Visiting pastors and parents at our church mentioned to me that they were impressed with the leadership of the youth leaders, the kids sharing frankly, and praying for each other sincerely when they observed the meetings. There were some concerns when it first started but through our hopes and patience, it's going well. It will take more time for the spirit of laymen ministry to shine forth but I believe that our children are maturing through Mokjang, and developing leadership skills.
Since Mokjang ...

The fasting for the whole church started last Monday. As far as the sign up goes, 875 out of 970 fasting spots have been filled. Not a day has gone where nobody has signed in and most of the empty spots are for December which means that they will most likely be filled in the end. Some have signed up on multiple days while some have split one day of fasting amongst themselves for health reasons. I think it is safe to say that almost all of the congregation members are participating in this event. I am going print out and post it until the day when it ends.
As I mentioned, ...

One of the visiting pastors mentioned to me one time that when he visited several Mokjangs at our church, he noticed each Mokja lead Mokjang in slightly different style. He asked if such discrepancies were alright or if church should establish some ground rules for all to follow. I asked what he meant by it because we clearly have Mokjang meeting procedures in place. Apparently, he was confused by his observation because some Mokjangs seemed entertainment oriented with fun and laughter, while others were totally the opposite. So, I told him that would be alright because ...
