Through the help of a great friend and brother in Christ, I came to realize something that I have missed for a long time. I realized that there is a BIG difference between knowing God as my Heavenly Father and feeling, really feeling, that God was truly my Father in every way. The realization that I was missing that in my relationship with God hit me like a ton of bricks. I haven’t wept like that in years.
If we are lucky enough, we will catch a glimpse of what that feels like through our earthly fathers. Many of us, however, miss out on that tender Fatherly love and so it becomes very difficult for us to know what it feels like, deep in our ...

Very recently, my brothers-in-law (I have two) suggested that we all go on a diet, seeing that we’re all a bit overweight, and make it into a contest. The contest part is entirely a result of male ego, but nonetheless, I thought it would be a great idea. First, because I really need to get back into shape. It’s sad. Second, because I should really do my best to look as good as I can for my wife Gina. She deserves my very best, right? Third, because doing this diet with my two brothers-in-law will be really motivating, especially considering the penalty for not winning. Let’s just say that it will not be pleasant for the person who loses ...

Have you ever heard the idiom, “I put my foot in my mouth”? If you haven’t, it basically describes a situation in which you say something that you regret. Unfortunately, I have put my foot in my mouth too many times and I’ve had to say sorry more than I’d like to admit. Just last night, immediately after the NLF prayer meeting, I was approached by a fellow NLF member, who wanted to talk to me about something in private. Because I don’t know this person all too well, I thought it had something to do with youth ministry. I was wrong.
In a nutshell, he wanted to let me know that he had forgiven me for some hurtful things that I had said ...

The human mind is truly a thing of mystery. Just this morning (Thursday), my wife Gina was trying to wake me up (a very difficult thing to do) and upon hearing her say, “Wake Up!” my response to her was, “We need to morph them into a SuperBaby!” She was dumbfounded as you can imagine. She then asked me if I realized what I had just said. To that I replied, “It’s not for me, it’s for the children!” The funny thing is, this is not the first time that I’ve woken up uttering complete nonsense. In fact, it’s almost a regular occurrence these days. What is going on in my mind during the night? I’m so weird!
While controlling ...

The Inner City team came back this past Friday after a wonderful week of ministry right outside of downtown Houston. Although we were not too far away, it felt as if we were in our own Inner City world for those five days. We ate together, slept on the same gym floor, and served as a team. In fact, as of Friday, we had seen each other for twelve straight days, including our intensive training week prior to going. That might be too much for some, but for us it was nothing but a blast.
This year, we had a problem that we never had before. We actually had less students sign up than our limit, which is the exact opposite of what usually happens. At ...
