We currently have two Sunday worship services, one at 9:45 and another at 11:00. However, our 9:45 worship service is a shortened version of the second worship service and is primarily for those who are serving at NLK (New Life Kids) or who are responsible for preparing Sunday refreshments. There are usually about 50 adults present during the first worship.
However, I have noticed over the past year that our second worship service attendance, especially during the first set of praise, is getting big, filling up almost all the chairs. We consistently have nearly 400 ...

This past Wednesday night when I was going home at about 10PM after the shepherds' meeting, I got rear ended at the corner of Beltway 8 and I-10. It wasn't anything severe but it was hard enough for me to bang my head against the side of my door and bleed. I was taken aback because of the recent surgery on my right eye. And thinking about all the hassle I would go through with insurance companies because it was a rental car I was driving made me a little frustrated.
After getting the necessary information from the person who hit me, I got into the car and cautiously ...

We as a church are committed to save the lost and make them disciples of Christ. One statistic says that about 18% of the US population attends church regularly, and by "regularly," it meant attending church three Sundays out of eight. And Texas is right at about the national average of 18%. Therefore, it is safe to say that at most 20% of Houstonians attend church regularly according to their definition but sporadically according to New Life's definition. This is a very discouraging report. What is even more discouraging is that the vast majority of churches are not ...

God displays His incredible love by protecting and directing His people out of impossible situations. However, we tend to get hung up on the impossibilities of life and believe God cannot change our circumstances because He does not love us enough. Thus, we lose our spiritual sense to believe that God could bring life to what seems like an end.
Joseph must have been filled with excitement and anticipation as he waited to wed his beloved Mary. At this joyful season in his life, he finds Mary to be with a child. Could you imagine what could have been running through his ...

Shortly before the US presidential election in 2012, a reference to Mormonism as a cult was scrubbed from the website for Evangelist Billy Graham, citing that religious debate should not become politicized during the campaign. And many Christians supported Mitt Romney, who was a Mormon, in the last election. I am not in the position to say anything about the presidential election choices since it is an individual's choice in voting, however, I have a concern that people might mistakenly understand Mormonism as a Christian Religion. Furthermore, a well-known megachurch ...

As I grow older, I sometimes feel ashamed of myself of younger days for being overconfident. For I now realized that my overconfidence and occasional looking down on people very often came from not having been in their shoes. For example, generally speaking, a person is mostly devoted to God as a single. When you are a single, you feel like you can do anything and everything for God, and in fact, it is mostly young singles that make a commitment for missionary service. Perhaps not so unnaturally, they often look down on the older generation and criticize their lack of ...

Our annual Texas Baptist Pastors' Retreat at San Luis Pass was this past Monday through Wednesday so I headed down there after teaching Living Life Bible Study. For the past three years we have been meeting at this same rental home sitting by a canal. All the pastors seem to enjoy the retreat because they get to rest from their ministry routine for a couple of days to cook, eat and share with one another. The highlight of the retreat, however, is fishing. Since the home is sitting by a canal, we can freely fish at any time of the day going in and out of the home ...
