Last Saturday, we had a youth parent meeting to hear about the progress on the youth house churches over the past one and half years and of its future plans. Many parents filled out a survey before the meeting and have attended the meeting as well, so I can tell that many of the parents are interested in the youth ministry at our church.
According to the survey taken by the parents, there were two main concerns. First, even though youth house church is a great way to develop leadership skills for the shepherds through serving and they get necessary training and support ...

We finished the expository sermons on Romans in the beginning of December, almost 1 year after we started this. Sermons from a single book have an advantage that we can cover the whole book, but I feel that one year was too long. One thing that was disappointing for me was that the House Church bible studies did not follow the scriptures used for the sermons. As Romans contain difficult content and if the worshippers had pre-read the verses and had a time to think about them, it could have been easier to listen to the sermon.
As a note, the practice of studying the ...

Our 24th wedding anniversary passed recently. Since we dated about seven years prior to getting married, we’ve known each other for 31 years. We entered into marriage without knowing God and without any thoughts or plans about the marriage. I have to say it has been God’s grace that we lived together without much problems. However, since I did not know God at that time, I consider it somewhat lucky that I had the 7 years of dating to think about what kind of husband and family I wanted to have.
When the time comes, many people prepare for marriage and determine the ...

Rumors have been going around regarding a daytime house church for the elders, so I feel the need to clarify. There are roughly 3 groups of elders in our church. The first group consists of elderly people who have moved to the U.S. at an older age with their children. Most of them don’t drive and live in elderly housing, and there are 3 house churches serving them. Except for shepherd Heui-Gu Kang’s house church, those house church members attend 1st service and hold house church meetings during 2nd service at church. Then they have lunch together after 2nd service and ...

My Living Life Bible Study (LLBS) students this semester are all amazing. I have 20 students in the class which I think is the most ideal size. Seven of them are undergrad students, six are medical school students, one is a doctor and six are working professionals.
After a long day at school or work, they show up to the class on Monday evening to learn more about God by studying His Word. Their motives and intentions for taking the class are varied. Some are taking the class because they are pressured by their shepherds to take it. Others are taking the class ...

Today is the Sunday before Thanksgiving. I would like to share a story among the writings of Reverend Kim Jin-Hong about a moving story of Thanksgiving. Back in 1970s, he was working among the poor in the slums of Chung-Kae Chun, when the slum became demolished and all residents were moved to Nam-Yang Man, which was a new settlement on some reclaimed land. This was a very moving Thanksgiving story among great struggles against poverty. This is a long story so I shortened it some but I tried to include most parts.
After we successfully moved into the reclaimed land, we ...

I cannot stress enough on being considerate toward VIPs in House church. Each House Church is doing its best to do so, and below are the most important points to remember.
First, show interest but do not ask about personal stuffs too much. When VIPs come to House Church for the first time, the most important thing is to care and welcome them. They are halfhearted about House church and if people are indifferent toward them, they will regret coming from the moment they arrive. It is important for every members to greet them with broad smiles and a sense of welcome. However ...
