When our family fled south to escape the invading North Koreans during the Korean War, our family consisted of 6 people: my grandmother (who at the time was younger than my wife is now), my uncle (who was in 8th grade), my brother (who was 4), myself (7 years old), and twin aunts, who were high school seniors at the time.
My grandfather was exposed to Western culture early in his life. In fact, he attended the same language school as the first president of South Korea, who earned a Ph. D at Princeton before becoming president. Because of this, our family members started ...

I’d like to share with you what I’ve been sharing with the youth shepherds and your parents recently. And that is this: there is incredible strength in youth ministry when the church partners with the parents. Not only does this partnership bring strength, it is a MUST if we really want to build a God-honoring youth ministry at SBC.
Adolescence – what all of you are going through right now – is not an easy thing to deal with. Believe me, I’ve been there. I know how many of you feel right now. Some of you may feel misunderstood by your parents and so there ...

I am writing this from San Jose. My wife turned sixty on March 13. My son Danny and his daughter Abby's birthdays are also in March. For Korean-Americans, a baby's first birthday means something special. So all of our families, including Sunju and Peter, are here to celebrate three birthdays; one celebration every day for three days.
I can't believe that my wife is now sixty years old and that we've lived together for 36 years. How true it is that time flies like an arrow!
Speaking of my wife, as some of you may know, she started working again part time last January at ...

A while back, I received an email from a church member. He had returned from a long trip abroad and had not yet recovered from jet lag. When he found himself awake in the middle of the night, he decided to attend an early morning prayer meeting at a nearby Korean-American church instead of trying to go back to sleep.
During the sermon, the pastor of the church said in passing how a member of a growing church in the area asked a member of his church: "Why are you still attending a spiritually dead church?" Our member surmised that the pastor was talking about our church ...

Based on our building construction schedule, we just have three more months before we can move in and occupy the building. This is exciting!
All of you have been very faithful with your “To Gain More” building pledges. We have about twenty more months to go and I trust that you will remain faithful to God with your finances as you sacrificially fulfill your commitments.
Now it is time for us to demonstrate our faithfulness to God with our time. We would like to start new church building clean up Saturdays beginning next Saturday until we move in and everything ...

“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.” Matthew 10:42
Discouragement makes us struggle with the question “What if.” What if I had done it differently? What if I started all over differently? We hope the past would bring us comfort, but comfort is not to be found. Somehow, the confidence of doing the task well has slipped away, and we get angry at the thought of being powerless. Here, we get upset over little things that normally wouldn’t ...

There will be many weddings this year! Presently, I count eleven. But who knows how many more there will be? I still remember asking you to pray for five weddings to take place during House of Prayer about two or three years ago. It seemed like a prayer that required the kind of faith that could move mountains. But it is different now. I can’t keep up with all the weddings! God truly gives us immeasurably more than we ask for.
In light of our pleasant situation, I would like to share some of my thoughts and convictions in regards to your wedding and preparatio...
