After sermon, we have commitment times when people walk up to the commitment table. There are six categories for commitment. If a person wants to register to our church, to accept Jesus as his or her personal Savior, to receive baptism, or to apply for the membership, he or she walks to the commitment table and marks the corresponding category. In addition to these one-time commitment occasions, anybody can come to the front when he or she makes a new decision after hearing the sermon or participating in the service and wants to recommit himself or herself to Jesus. Other people come to the front to make a prayer request. While the former four types’ ...

Combined 3 House Church meetings are over as of last week. I wanted to meet with all of my church members in person when I became a senior pastor, so I asked House churches to organize themselves into groups of three in order to speed up the process. I thought it would take a little over a year to finish, but because I had to be out of the office every once in a while, it took about a year and half.
I figured it would be hard to share personally since I am meeting with 3 House Churches at a time, so I wanted it to be an introduction time for me as a new senior pastor. So I created a presentation explaining in detail about me and my family and took ...

There are many things newly wedded couples should remember to create a happy marriage, but most important thing among these is to cut the bond with your parents. God gave us a family as a community and the children are raised and trained under the parent’s authority for a set amount of time. But after the children grow up and the time comes for them to marry, they need to cut the mental and emotional bond with their parents and need to create new relationship with their spouses. (Ge2:24)
This is because whether we know it or not, we have a deeply rooted bond with our parents and if this bond is not resolved in a healthy way, it could lead to ...

This is the age of the smart phone. When I saw the first smart phone from Apple, it was so great that I wanted shout out “this was revolutionary!”. This technology combined the functionality of computer, phone, Walkman, and electronic notebook into one device. But the downside of using this technology is that it will continually ruin our abilities and we have to continuously make an effort to overcome this side effect.
As part of making this effort, I strongly urge you to stop using smart phones during the worship service and during the ...

We should always experience two things about God. First is the loving God who accompanies us continuously and are always present in our lives; second in contrast is the fearful God who transcends us and controls the whole universe. Just as most of the current songs that we listen, these days we tend to emphasize loving God who is our friend; but we should not lose the sight of awesome God and we have to balance our knowledge about God’s Presence and Transcendence.
With this in mind, our combined worship service is composed such that we can experience both of these two attributes of God. First of all, we have two major parts to our worship ...

My travels during the first half of the year are coming to an end, and I want to share a summary of my travels with the church members. The biggest result of my travels is the potential growth of House Church in Africa in a big way through the Mozambique church. Missionary Myung-Sup Jung has been successful at setting up churches but lacked a direction of how to spread the House Church. But during my visit there, there were 200 local pastors that came together, and they showed a great interest in House Church saying they now have found a direction for their ministry.
I promised to Missionary Jung to have a House Church Seminar for Pastors during ...

If I think of the word “Mother”, everyone without exception will feel a tugging at his heart. Maybe he will remember the love his mother gave at a difficult point in his life, and know the sacrifice his mother made with her love. My mother was no exception.
My mother was the second daughter among 2 brothers and 4 sisters, but played the role of breadwinner of the family. After my grandfather, who was a train station master, was kidnapped by North Korean soldiers during Korean War, she worked as a teacher of a junior high and paid for her brothers to go to school. After she married my father, she had three children including myself. Under the ...
