Claim of an ex-Muslim

Recently, president Obama claimed, “ISIS is not Islam nor represents Islam. This is clear from the fact the most of their victims are Muslim. Someone who used to be a Muslim, made a speech against president Obama’s words and it was placed on Youtube. Some of you may have watched it, but I do not think that there is any Korean translation for it, so I want to share the story with you. The speaker’s father was an imam (Islamic pastor) and he practiced Islam for over 20 years. He has a bachelor’s degree in the study of religion and is working on his master’s degree on terrorism. His name is Lahid. He opens his speech, “Dear Mr. President. ...

Whatever you do, you need to know how to enjoy it.

Last year, during the World Cup in Brazil, the Korean soccer team did not record a single victory. The team and fans were both dejected. However, with the coming of new coach from Germany, Mr. Stielike, the table has turned. In less than 6 months, the Korean team achieved the glorious second place in Asian Cup. In the final, the Korean team was beaten 2-1 by Australia. The goal was working favorably to Australia and the Aussies benefited from their home ground advantage, but the Korean team displayed spirited fight which was quite admirable. The fact that a leader can make such a huge difference makes us think about many things. Even after such ...

Right time to serve desert

Since pastor’s seminar is coming up, I want to share a tip about house church meeting. When I was a shepherd, I did not serve desert right after dinner. After dinner, the setting is somewhat unorganized trying to clean up and doing the dishes. As soon as things clean up, if desert is served, it is another busy situation where some work to prepare desert and some are busy eating, etc. In this situation, it is difficult to calm down to start the house church program. In the house church procedure, there are times to be serious and there are times to be relaxed. For example, it is good to be free and casual during dinner and sharing, but it is ...

My love, my church

I accepted Jesus as my Lord and savior in the spring of 1993. In 1987, I started working for a Korean conglomerate. It was a dream career path for a Korean college graduate. However, a difficult situation at work turned into a crisis of my life. Someone told me, ‘If you have trouble, go before God and pray. He does not ignore our prayers.’ At that time, it was only few weeks since I started attending church. Nevertheless, I started to go dawn prayer meeting and my walk with God started. My prayer was answered exactly 1 year later, but during that time, I had such intimate relationship with God. The relationship was so real to a point it ...

House church is the hope of the other side of the world

The 126th Pastor’s seminar was held in city S of C country C, following the same rules and principles as that of the US. The church where the seminar was held started house churches two and half years ago and showed a very promising future. There were many powerful testimonies from shepherds and their spouses. This church does not have a kitchen so people have to prepare food and deliver it to the church. In spite of that, the joyful spirit of serving members was quite evident. On Saturday morning, we had a question and answer session for shepherds, and I want to share some of their answers with you. After a few answers, it was quite clear ...

Recent report of my wife and daughter

Not long ago, my sister-in-law came to Houston for 3 weeks to see my daughter’s graduation. She suffers from eye disease called RP just like my wife. Both of them started having symptoms at around the same age and since she is three years older than my wife, I could see her and estimate the condition of my wife three years later. When I went to Korea and see her for a short time, I could not tell her level of sight impediment, but this time as we spent more time together, I could see her condition better. She stayed in my house for 3 weeks, but as she walks toward bedroom from the living room, she could not tell the distance and bump into wall. ...

Joy of aging

Next month I will be 53 years old. I was the youngest of my siblings and my father and grandfather were both the youngest in their generations, so I have been used to being young or the youngest. When I was young, there were many 2nd cousins who were my father’s age, and because of this it was difficult to think of me as old. Recently, I have a lot more gray hair, but gray hair does not always come with age. Also, I have been absentminded since my childhood, so short-term memory loss did not necessarily make me feel old either. When I was a child, I used to lose things a lot such as umbrella, lunch box, gloves, etc. I even lost the wedding ...
