Many of you are aware that I had another retinal detachment surgery two weeks ago when we had our annual Crawfish Boil. Since I have asked you and your children to pray for me to have a good recovery, I would like to share with you an update on my eyes.
My right eye, for which I had scleral buckle surgery on February 19, is healing okay. Even though I see many floaters and the detached vitreous constantly moving in my eye, which makes my vision blurry, the good news is that after two months of surgery, the retina remains attached. According to the doctor, there is a good chance that the retina will stay attached for life if it remains attached two ...

We currently have two Sunday worship services, one at 9:45 and another at 11:00. However, our 9:45 worship service is a shortened version of the second worship service and is primarily for those who are serving at NLK (New Life Kids) or who are responsible for preparing Sunday refreshments. There are usually about 50 adults present during the first worship.
However, I have noticed over the past year that our second worship service attendance, especially during the first set of praise, is getting big, filling up almost all the chairs. We consistently have nearly 400 adults and 150 youth and children worshipping together during this time. The ...

This past Wednesday night when I was going home at about 10PM after the shepherds' meeting, I got rear ended at the corner of Beltway 8 and I-10. It wasn't anything severe but it was hard enough for me to bang my head against the side of my door and bleed. I was taken aback because of the recent surgery on my right eye. And thinking about all the hassle I would go through with insurance companies because it was a rental car I was driving made me a little frustrated.
After getting the necessary information from the person who hit me, I got into the car and cautiously drove home. While I was driving, however, I couldn't help but keep asking why ...

We as a church are committed to save the lost and make them disciples of Christ. One statistic says that about 18% of the US population attends church regularly, and by "regularly," it meant attending church three Sundays out of eight. And Texas is right at about the national average of 18%. Therefore, it is safe to say that at most 20% of Houstonians attend church regularly according to their definition but sporadically according to New Life's definition. This is a very discouraging report. What is even more discouraging is that the vast majority of churches are not reaching out to the unchurched unbelievers. I believe there are two main ...

Our annual Texas Baptist Pastors' Retreat at San Luis Pass was this past Monday through Wednesday so I headed down there after teaching Living Life Bible Study. For the past three years we have been meeting at this same rental home sitting by a canal. All the pastors seem to enjoy the retreat because they get to rest from their ministry routine for a couple of days to cook, eat and share with one another. The highlight of the retreat, however, is fishing. Since the home is sitting by a canal, we can freely fish at any time of the day going in and out of the home whenever we want to.
Fishing was very slow during the retreat. Other than catching ...

Each year we do Six Day Dinner Fast & Early Morning Prayer to prepare our hearts for the upcoming Fall Retreat. The dinner fast starts from Sunday at 3pm and the early morning prayer from Monday at 5am. And this goes on for six straight days.
During the early morning prayer, we spend the first 15 minutes doing our personal devotional time (PDT) using the material I prepare for each day. After that, we pray individually for 30 minutes going over the prayer needs that are listed on the PDT sheet. Then, we all come together as one group and corporately pray the last 15 minutes specifically for the retreat as I call out each prayer topic.
It's ...

Our Fall Retreat is just right around the corner. And I am already getting excited about it especially since it is going to take place at Camp Allen which is only 45 miles from church. The facility is clean, calm and beautiful. It also provides some of the best meals I have ever tasted out of all the retreat centers I have been to in Texas.
More than all these, however, I am waiting for the retreat with great anticipation because it will be a great time of rest and rejuvenation. Singles from all the house churches will get to mingle with each other as they eat, converse and play games and sports together. Families will also get to spend time with ...
