Freedom in Christ

The cross of Christ gave us freedom from guilt and the performance driven life. However, we move on from the gospel when God does not meet our expectations. We don’t fix our eyes on the cross when we are disappointed with God. As a result, we take the cross for granted. If we take the cross for granted, we will: Lack joy. Be spiritually dry or dead. Have no passion for God. Always be looking for something else that will satisfy. Are you not tired of being tired? Are you not tired of trying to make life work by neglecting your time in the Word of God and ...

How I have been doing lately…

There have been some changes in my life since I became a senior pastor and I would like to let you know some of the major ones. At the end of last year, I stepped down from Mokja (Shepard) position of Guruturgi Mokjang (House church), which I had served for 12 years. I handed the Mokjang over to one of the Mokjang member at the time and he must have done a better job than I since it is about double the size after less than a year. I continued my position as a village leader even after I stopped serving as Mokja, but I let the position go as well last July. The new village ...

Why “Receiving Jesus Meeting”?

There aren't too many things that I disagreed with Pastor Chai about in doing ministry, but one of the things that I believed differently about was "Receiving Jesus Meeting." I didn't want just the pastors to share the gospel with unbelievers, helping them to become God's children by receiving Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. I wanted every member of New Life to be able to do this and experience the joy of leading someone to Christ. My reasoning sounded very noble and ideal but the track record revealed that it was not all that effective in saving souls and ...

We Will Begin With Prayers.

Just as I have mentioned during the past few sermons, I would like to start the new beginning of our church with prayers. First is the 97 days of relay fasting and prayer by the whole congregation, and second is the recruitment of 333 prayer members and service prayer members. The sign up for the relay fasting and prayer starts today and ends next Sunday. Place your name on the dates you would like to participate on the fasting schedule posted on the right side of the bulletin boxes. A maximum of 10 members can participate in one particular day, which means there are 970 ...

I am a blessed man!

As you know, Pastor Young G. Chai, the senior pastor of Seoul Baptist Church of Houston retired last Sunday. The installation worship service for Pastor Sookwan Lee was followed by the retirement worship service for Pastor Chai and they were both beautifully done. All of us who were there felt extremely thankful and we rejoiced that we are all part of this healthy church that God is using in a very special way. And there were moments when we had a hearty laugh. However, we couldn't stop shedding tears because it was our beloved pastor's last day with us as our senior ...

For Shepherds’ Wives Only

We have 51 house churches as of now. Thirty eight of them are shepherded by married couples and thirteen by single men. It's not that the number of single house church shepherds has declined. It's just that the number of married house church shepherds has increased making the number of single house church shepherds look small. And this is only obvious and natural because over the years many single house church shepherds have gotten married. I hear very frequently from our KSC that without shepherds' wives faithfully serving and caring for their house church members, ...

People Who Only Talk

Several years ago, a church in Korea sent young people to Afghanistan to visit and assist a medical doctor the church supported and give medical care to the Afghan people for a few weeks. During their return trip, they were kidnapped by the Taliban and held hostage for several months. Internet posters were harsh when commenting on this incident. Most of them expressed their displeasure by saying things like "They should have known what was coming when they decided to go in violation of government regulations that forbid travel in Afghanistan" (in fact there were no such ...
