Let’s Stop Drinking Alcohol

Is it all right for Christians to drink alcohol? Answer to this question varies. These days, it seems that many think social drinking is all right if it is under control. Some do not feel comfortable treating drinking as sin. They think having social drinking contributes in relationship and friendship building. Therefore, on advertisement for alcohol, they use female to emphasize friendship and good company. However, alcohol is not such a simple matter. Especially for Korean people, the effect of alcohol is very serious. Based on the data by OECD, Korea is number 2 ...

Pastor Barnabas Choi will be involved in the Youth ministry

As you know, Pastor Sam Oh has been in charge of the Youth ministry of our church for a while. However, it would be a too heavy burden for one pastor to minister over 230 students of junior high and high school age. For example, for pre-school and grade school kids, we have many volunteers who help with various activities. However for Youth ministry, there has been a limited participation from KSC due to the language barrier. As for the ESC, the member’s children tend to be young-aged who require most of their parent’s time and energy. Therefore, only a handful of ...

Value of Family

From last Monday to Friday, I took a family vacation. To me, a family vacation is not an easy project. Because of my wife’s visual impairment, she has difficulties with long vehicle rides, walking, or being exposed to sunlight for long, and other outdoor activities. If she walks for longer than a half mile, her legs will swell, she will feel pain in her shoulders and neck and other combination of physical difficulties. In comparison, my daughter has a bucket list that includes skydiving, world’s tallest bungee jumping, or riding the world’s highest roller ...

Starting in September, I will deliver sermon from Acts.

We finished the series of sermon on Ten Commandments last week. As we started this series on the second week of February, it took exactly 6 months to finish this series. But because I did not deliver sermons on the first week of every month, there were total of 18 sermons on this series. I thought about delivering two sermons on the last commandment and finish with a summary sermon to end on the last week of August, but it seemed like it was taking too long so I finished this series last week. In reality, Ten Commandments are not easy topics to be used as the summon ...

A Letter from Roca Blanca

As you know, Roca Blanca is a very special place for me because that was the first place that I went to for a mission trip with some members from the KSC in the spring of 1995 and then with the youth group members in the summer of the same year.  Ever since then, I used to go there every year for the next several years. Mission trips to Roca Blanca were always hard because we went to tough and difficult places without much civilization.  However, one of the joys and blessings of going down there for me was to work with Laura Pratt who is a missionary nurse who has ...

Language Skills are the Rich Assets

In the past, some first generation immigrants believed that it was okay for their children to forget Korean language; it was thought to be necessary for the childrentosuccessfully assimilate into the mainstream American society. Consequently, most second-generation immigrants from that time could not speak Korean. It seems to change now. A lot of people argue that speaking Korean fluently can be an important asset no matter where one lives; I agree to this opinion. The American Ambassador to Korea, Sung Kim (Korean name: Sung Young Kim), speaks Korean almost perfectly. ...

3G and SRM Are Everyone’s Ministries!

It is very easy for pastors to discriminate church members based on their educational, professional or socioeconomic status.  James warns us about this. "My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism.  Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in.  If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, 'Here is a good seat for you,' but say to the poor man, 'You stand there' or 'Sit on the floor by my feet,' have you not discriminated ...
