WHY WE CAN SMILE AT ADVERSITY
Hurricane Harvey caused the biggest rain damage in Houston’s history. Starting from the middle of last week, I visited several flood-ravaged areas and It was truly brutal. The rotten smell filled the air, and household items and pieces torn out from houses were irregularly piled high on the front yard. Jesus Cleansed the Temple
Dear Parents,
In preparation for the Passover feast, Jesus made His triumphal entry to Jerusalem. Jesus went to the temple there. Herod the Great completely rebuilt the temple in 20–18 B.C. as part of his architectural projects. The temple was surrounded by walls and gates, with specific places for Gentiles, women, and men to worship God and offer sacrifices. The temple was a symbol of God’s presence among His people.

WHAT HURRICANE HARVEY LEFT BEHIND TO US
Last week, we experienced something which we never experienced before. For the first time in the history of SBC, we could not have Sunday worship service. Not only that, we had to cancel all church events until Thursday.
The heavy rain which started from Saturday night equaled almost the rainfall for a typical year. Because of that, many of the congregation experienced flooding in homes and businesses. After so much rain, on Sunday night, the rain continued. I am sure many of you could not sleep concerned of flooding.

Dear Parents,
Three decades had passed since Jesus arrived on earth as a helpless baby. He grew up and began His ministry. People wondered, Could this be the Messiah? From the time sin entered the world through Adam, God was working out His rescue plan. Finally, at just the right time, God sent His Son into the world.

Jesus received word that His friend Lazarus was sick. Lazarus was the brother of Mary and Martha. They lived in the town of Bethany, which was about two miles away from Jerusalem. Mary and Martha sent a message to Jesus, likely expecting Him to come right away.
