New Life Fellowship and Seoul Baptist Church are not two separate churches but two different language groups under one church. We use two different names for convenience but there is only one church (Seoul Baptist Church of Houston) with two congregations: the English Speaking Congregation (ESC) and Korean Speaking Congregation (KSC).
We should exist as one church because we want to be obedient to the Lord. The night before he was crucified Jesus prayed: "Father, just as you are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have ...

I met a friend of mine at a restaurant in Korea. He was smoking when a waitress asked what we wanted to drink, He ordered plum juice, and then turned to me and said, "Plum juice is good for your health." I smiled because his remark reminded me of something Brother Jin Soo Lee (who went to Korea to be director of the national cancer center) said. He noted that the efficacy of certain fruit juices have not been well established. Thorough scientific research has yet to be done on the potency of these juices. Even if they turned out to be beneficial you would need to drink ...

I'm concerned about the growing anti-US sentiment in Korea.
The other day I saw a headline in bold letters on the entertainment page of a Korean Newspaper that read: "Korean flag, porn?" A smaller line underneath it: "850,000 viewers insulted." Naturally the article piqued my curiosity. But when I started reading I realized that the headline was misleading. A blockbuster movie entitled "Under The Korean Flag" is currently playing in Korea. In a short time it attracted the aforementioned attendance numbers, breaking all records. It attracted foreign distributors as ...

In the earlier years of New Life there weren't much structure, system or policies. We began the church with just about 25-30 people, and anyone who had a warm body was encouraged to serve in New Life. And I am grateful for everyone who stepped up when the church was young and small and did all kinds of unglamorous ministries. New Life wouldn't be where it is right now without all those unsung heroes' sacrificial service.
Now, the church has grown to be more than 300 people, including our children. It's not a small church anymore considering the fact that an ...

My wife and I just came back from a 5 day vacation in France. My wife has been friends with the wife of renowned conductor Myung Hoon Chung since childhood. She invited us to France so I could help her husband find answers to some of his questions about the Christian faith. He had been asking a lot of spiritual questions lately. Their home is in Povence, in the southern part of France, a 30 minute drive from Marseilles. It was an occasion for us to rest as well as to have discussions on Christian matters.
During the time I was there, I saw a good example of someone who ...

We ordained two new deacons last Sunday. During the ordination service I couldn't keep myself from crying. I think the reason I was moved was that the new deacons and their wives all came to accept Christ and be baptized by me. Seeing how they had grown spiritually to the point of being ordained deacons made me emotional.
Deacon candidates go through many procedures before being ordained. First, they must be recommended by fellow shepherds by vote. Then they need to must receive at least 2/3 of a congregational vote. After that they take written and oral exams. If they ...

You can find many management books in bookstores, but most of them are for CEO types, managers for big companies. They are not very helpful for people who run small businesses. Practical management principles for small businesses can be given only by people who have been successful in that field. Let me introduce two such people.
One is a newly appointed Shepherd. He runs a shoe repair shop. It had been open for four months when I interviewed him to be appointed as a shepherd. He said that in the first month the business was in the red, but the very next month he broke ...
