Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the midst of COVID-19

From the Pastor’s Desk (255)

(Email version via church app)

It’s so good to be able to send this email to all the members of New Life all at once!

I thank our team leaders who got this church app so that through it we can give our tithes and offerings, register for classes and other events and also send emails like this without having to type all the email addresses or relying on the shepherds to forward my email to all of you.

First of all, I praise God for containing COVID-19 from spreading in our midst. We still need to be careful but everyone who tested positive either fully recovered or are recovering well. Let’s continue to wear masks and keep social distancing but let’s not be so fearful of the virus to a point where we overly contain and limit ourselves from doing meaningful and necessary activities.

Second, I would like to highly recommend that you register and come out to Sunday corporate worship service. It’s just not the same worshipping God online via YouTube. We had to in the earlier stage of this pandemic because everything was very new and foreign to us. And we truly thank our team leaders and pastors for coming up with ways in which we can provide online worship service as well as children’s Sunday worship and Sunday school classes that seem to be far better in terms of quality than many other churches. But if we don’t start to go actively against the sedentary lifestyle that got created by the pandemic, then it will become harder and harder for us to come back and come out of it when things get better. Therefore, I urge you to register for Sunday worship service using the church app and come out in person to worship. We take up to 120 as of now for each service.

Third, I would like to ask 240 of you, 120 in each service, to come out to church this coming Sunday. Tami Kim will be sharing her message that I asked her to prepare a year ago. She sent me the draft, I read it and it is excellent. You will be blessed to hear her message. Guaranteed!

Fourth, the revival is over but your spiritual disciplines must continue and thrive. Read God’s word, pray, fast, read good Christian books (especially missionary biographies), fast, walk in solitude, etc. If your spiritual walk wanes after the revival meeting, then you are a revival junkie and that’s not good. You can’t rely on these events to sustain your walk with Christ. You must live as worshippers all throughout the week and then come to Sunday corporate worship with a heightened sense of expectation that God would meet you in a personal and powerful way.

Fifth, let’s exercise so that we would be physically fit. Run, walk, play tennis, soccer, etc. Let’s lose some weight if we need to. Let’s strengthen our muscles. Let’s increase our lung capacity. These activities often cause us to have very productive days.

Sixth, have some fun. Go fishing. Play some board games. Eat together in a smaller group of people. Travel together in a smaller group among house church members. Just as Jesus spent his time with his close friends. Let’s do the same.

It’s been an interesting and challenging yet very good year! In some ways, it was a modified sabbatical for many of us! So, we thank and praise God for this unusual way of slowing us down and having us catch a breath from the busyness of life.

I love you all!

Have Thanksgiving!

Eric
