As a church, we strive to live up to the motto: “Taking full responsibility to raise godly children.” This doesn’t mean that the church intends to take over the proper responsibilities of parents. It also doesn’t mean that we have a perfect children’s education program. Rather, it’s an expression of the strong determination of our church, under the leadership of our Senior Pastor, to do our best to raise godly children in an era where all education is at risk.
One of our goals is to have an Education Specialist. We don’t want Youth Ministry to be a transitional place where young pastors practice ministry before moving on. We don’t want Children’s Ministry to be a less important ministry where people fill in part-time. We want our children to be entrusted to someone who has committed his or her lifelong service to this specialized field. In order to help servants devote themselves to such work, our church provides an equal salary for all our staff, including the Senior Pastor.
Next week, we will have a kick-off meeting for the Long Term Educational Committee, a project that will further enhance our efforts in this area. The committee will begin by examining where we are now. This will cover not only the children’s education program, but will also address parenting classes for each age group. We plan on getting help from outside specialists when necessary, and visiting and learning from model groups as well. Going forward, we will eventually be able to get a clearer picture of our vision and education methods for both parents and children. Through this, we hope to establish and develop a sturdy long-term plan and vision for a child from the time he or she enters the pre-school class to the time they graduate from high school.
God put a special emphasis on the education of our children when he noted in Deuteronomy 11:19 – “Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” With the effort of many dedicated people, I believe that our church will not fall short of the vision to raise godly children.
