“Those who suffer from House church meeting”

I have cable TV that shows Korean channels. I installed it a few years ago because one day my wife told me that she feels out of touch with reality since she lives in the US with vision problem, so she wanted to hear Korean news and cultural programs. Since then, I have sometimes watched Korean programs too when I get off from work. One of the programs that has caught my attention is a program called, ‘Person of Nature’
I never watched it to the end, so I do not know all the details, but the program is about visiting some people who live alone in the wilderness and spending a few days with them to capture their daily routines with some interviews. I’ve seen only a few of episodes, but every time I get similar messages. It has appeared to me that these people are extremely lonely but the narrator always describes their lives as something beautiful. I began thinking that there might be some people who are tired of living in such busy places like Korea and might yearn for such life and could become social problems later.

In some cases, there are people who possess a natural tendency to be reclusive. People like that normally feel tired when they are around others and have to rest after dealing with people for a while because their energy gets drained quickly. Normally, people like that are dreamers. They can be by themselves for as long as they have books and computers and love to think so that their thoughts can elapse in many different ways.

To people like them, House church seems inherently difficult, which is quite understandable. It is hard for them to be around people so it will be an agony for them to have to meet people with conflicting personalities every week and spend more than 4 hours each time they meet. Because of this, they cannot partake in House church actively and often look for an opportunity to be absent. Taking on this kind of passive role in turn makes them not-so-welcome members in House church. Among the people who left our church because they couldn’t adjust, a majority of them seem to be this way. Therefore, we need to understand that there are people who are like that all around us. We need to understand that there are people who enjoy House Church while there are others who don’t, and we need to be considerate of those who make the choice to leave for those reasons.

However, if you happen to be that type of person, instead of saying, ‘That’s just the way I am’, let us remember that it is a characteristic issue you must overcome. When God made us, he made us to live in society and bound us in groups in order to achieve common goals together. Also, as long as you say, ‘I am who I am and I cannot change’, it is impossible to accomplish the calling of saving souls. But most of all, it’s not good for your soul if you distance yourself with your neighbor and enjoy being by yourself. Loneliness is a sketch of what Hell would be like here on earth. We can mature and become more like Christ by interacting with others, so even if House church is tough for you, try to mingle and take an active role so that you can fight that kind of tendency in you.
