This past Wednesday, September 27 was national “See You at The Pole” day. Millions of students were gathered around their schools’ flagpoles to pray for their schools and their leaders.
I had the privilege of joining some of you at Cy Ridge High School this past Wednesday morning. (I had no idea there was such a thing as “zero period” which starts at 6:30AM. Nuts.) Anyways, I was really encouraged to see such a good turnout of students at the flagpole, singing praise songs and praying for their school and our nation’s leaders.
It is so important that we take the time to pray for our schools and those who have been elected to lead our country. But what impressed me the most was the fact that these students were unashamed to proclaim their faith in public. I was so proud to be standing with more than a handful of our own SBC students, who came out extra early to participate in their SYATP event.
In his letter to the Romans, the apostle Paul writes, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16)
We have something that this world desperately needs: the Good News of Jesus Christ. Because we have this Gospel, there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.
SYATP may only be once a year, but we have the other 364 days a year to openly proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ. Like the apostle Paul, let us not be ashamed of the gospel!
