A Five-Dollar Offering for Missionaries

My primary passion in life is to help people become more like Jesus. There is no greater joy for me than seeing people change to be more like Him. That's why I do what I do as a pastor, to help people grow and mature spiritually. And one of the ways that God transforms our lives is through His word. Paul said, "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ" (Romans 10: 17). God's word is extremely vital and essential in our spiritual transformation. Without it you cannot grow spiritually! Since I know the ...

June Is Our Rest Month This Year!

Many of us will be going on a short-term mission trip in June. Our children's vacation Bible School will also take place in the same month. Therefore, we will rest from our house church ministry in June this year. We began this tradition last year and the response and the results have been marvelous. Please read last year's "From the Pastor's Desk" that I wrote to communicate and explain to you why we have decided to do this: Let's Rest from Our House Church Ministry in July! From the Pastor's Desk (69) / June 16, 2002 Our Heavenly Father created the heavens and the ...

New Life’s New Logo

The leaders of New Life have been thinking, praying and working diligently to come up with a new logo that would clearly describe who we are as a church. We wanted our logo to embody three foundationally important truths or elements for New Life. The first is the cross of Jesus Christ. It is through the finished work of Jesus on the cross that our sins are forgiven and we are saved from eternal death. This is foundational in our Christian walk. "For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified." (1 Corinthians 2: 2) The ...

We Will Not Buy that Land

For the past several months, we as a congregation have been seeking God about the piece of property on Brittmore Rd. and Hammerly Blvd. to see if He would have us move there to reach out to more people. The land is 20.6 acres, and it is in the 100-year flood zone, which means there is a possibility that it could flood once every 100 years. The record shows that it has never flooded before. The negotiated price for the land was $1,125,000, and we were going to purchase the land together with our Korean congregation paying 50/50. We also decided to do the engineering ...

Monday Morning Men’s Prayer Meeting

We had our first Monday Morning Men's Prayer Meeting this past Monday at 6AM in the Trailer House. Amazingly, there were twenty men who came to pray before they went to work. Some came from not too far away places but there were guys who came all the way from Missouri City, Sugar Land and Pearland. I just cannot express in words how I felt about the first prayer meeting. It was like fresh wind after a long drought, like fresh breath of the Spirit of God. Truly awesome! About three and a half years ago I saw a vision during our Sunday morning intercessory prayer meeting. ...

Going Deeper with God

In the past six and a half years of New Life history, we have emphasized the importance of Sunday corporate worship, weekly house church gathering, intercessory prayer and missions. There are other essential elements of a local church, such as community outreach and Bible studies, that we need to pay attention to and must develop in order for us to become a biblically fully functioning church, and we will do so when the time comes. But there is a reason why I haven't stressed the significance of Bible studies in New Life all these years. The purpose of studying the ...

Helping Our Offering Counting Servants!

When Sunday worship is over and we are happily having our fellowship with one another over refreshments, there are a couple of people whose ministry just begins. They are the offering counting servants. For the sake of accountability, we have at least two people count the offering at church immediately after worship. That's why their fellowship time is often cut very short. They are some of the few unsung heroes of our church. In order to help their ministry become more efficient, we are going to use the newly designed offering envelopes in just a few weeks. This ...
